Provides men of the parish an opportunity to broaden the sense of community through social, spiritual, and recreational activities and to foster camaraderie and fellowship among the adult men of the parish. The A.Men club serves the community as well as the parish in both social and service capacities.

The main function of this committee is to provide ongoing education/formation for the spiritual growth of the adult members of Ascension Parish.

Open to boys or girls from grades 5 and above. Assists the Presider at Liturgy with different elements such as accepting the gifts, carrying the cross and/or candles and other tasks as needed for the individual liturgy. Required training provided.

ANCHOR is the name of our newly developed parish religious education program for children who do not attend the parish school and/or who may be home-schooled. It is offered weekly on Sunday mornings. It takes place between the masses. This is for grades 1-8; and includes sacramental preparation for the appropriate grade levels. Classes are held in the school building. A family faith formation component is included in the program structure. The religious education classes are taught by trained, experienced volunteer catechists. Registration takes place in August. This committee serves the liturgy by providing quality liturgical art in an appropriate environment in order to enhance the worship space. Specific areas: indoor gardening, decorating the church and cleaning of the church.

This committee is responsible for an annual review of parish financial records and internal controls.

Coordinators conduct preparation classes for parents and godparents concerning the Sacrament of Baptism, its history, and symbolism. Discussions are led on Christian parenting.

Members of this committee bring the love and concern of the parish community to a family when someone in that family passes away. This is accomplished in many ways such as providing food, house sitting, child care, funeral liturgy planning, and whatever else may be needed by the family.

Open to all adults of the parish. Organizes and promotes social, spiritual, and recreational activities for the benefit of the adults of the parish. Promotes and finances the Athletic Program as sanctioned by the Catholic School Athletic Association.

There are two bridge clubs that meet weekly: On Monday afternoons members play CONTRACT bridge. On Friday afternoons members play DUPLICATE bridge. Lessons are available at both sessions. Special occasions throughout the year are celebrated with delicious luncheons and fun prizes.

This committee oversees the general maintenance and upkeep of the parish property as well as planning for long-range needs of the parish community’s physical plant.

Children 3 years of age through 4th grade are invited to attend Children’s Liturgy of the Word each week during the 10:30 Sunday liturgy. Children hear the Word of God on their level. Take home activities are part of the program.

These special ministers of the Eucharist assist the Presider in offering the Body and Blood of Christ to the assembly at Liturgy. Open to confirmed eighth grade students, high school students and adults who are confirmed. Required training provided.

The ministers take communion on Sunday mornings to parishioners in their homes who are unable to attend weekend liturgy. Ministers are also needed to take communion to Suburban Hospital on Thursday or assist with liturgy at Harborside on Friday. Required training provided.

The Cub Scout Program is for boys in grades 2 through 5. It prepares the participants to become Boy Scouts. This scouting program occurs in conjunction with St. Pius X.

The Dinner Chain is composed of parish volunteers who provide dinner to parishioners experiencing a significant event in their lives which makes dinner preparation difficult.

Need description

This committee is responsible for reporting the financial activities of the parish. It also makes recommendations to the Parish Council relating to financial issues. Members work with other parish committees in developing annual budgets, reviewing variances from budgets, and assisting those committees as necessary. Other duties include reviewing monthly financial information and assisting in general accounting functions.

The Girl Scout Program offers girls the opportunity to work and grow together, learn responsibility, leadership and service to others while developing recreational and social skills.

Ministers who promote an atmosphere of hospitality by welcoming newcomers and friends at church. Specific tasks: help seat people when needed, straighten church at end of liturgy.

Kid’s Time is a program designed to provide quality after school care for children who attend Ascension School in grades Jr. Kindergarten – 8th grade. Child care is also provided during the summer break for Ascension and neighboring parish children in grades Jr. Kindergarten – 6th grade.

Parishioners who proclaim the Word of God at liturgy. Open to high school age students and adults. Required training provided.

Volunteer group who meets to prepare and plan the liturgies through reflecting on scripture. Enhances the celebrations for the liturgical seasons through appropriate art, music, intercessions, and other specific details.

This committee analyzes the changes in our parish community and provides vision for the church in order to develop a strategy for our long-range needs. This committee works closely with the Parish Council.

Meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. Open to all adults interested in helping maintain the parish property by making minor repairs, painting, cleaning, etc.

This program is led by trained volunteer married couples who help engaged couples meet the requirements to marry within the Catholic Church.

This is a new ministry in the parish that reaches out to moms of younger children and offers them an opportunity to gather for support, faith and friendship as they share the commonality of motherhood. This group meets once a month.

This ministry enhances the liturgical celebrations through song and instrumental music. There are a variety of ways to serve in the Music Ministry at Ascension.
Cantor – The role of the cantor is to lead and encourage the assembly to join their voices in praising God through song; proclaims the psalm. Open to high school students and adults. Required training provided.

Choir – Vocal ensemble open to high school students and adults. Provides music for Sunday and special liturgies; weekly rehearsal.

Ascension Singers – Choir open to children from grades 3 through 6. Provides music for Parish Liturgies; weekly rehearsal.

“Strings”– Vocal and instrumental ensemble open to adults. Provides music for weekend and special liturgies and focuses on the more contemporary side of Catholic Pastoral Music. Presently, one rehearsal a month.

Teen Group – Open to all youth in grades 7 – 12 wishing to sing or play at parish liturgies.

Resurrection Choir – Men and women who strengthen the sung portions of the funeral liturgy. As a part of the assembly, the Choir’s presence generates a sense of parish unity with the family and friends of the deceased. It is not necessary to be a member of one of the other choirs. Members gather one half hour before the time of the funeral to prepare the music.

Organist/Keyboardist – Provides music for Sunday and special liturgies; accompanies cantor and assembly.

Instrumentalists – Anyone who plays a musical instrument and would like to participate in liturgy.

Handbells – Training is provided to play handbells for special weekend liturgies. No instrumental experience is necessary.

Assist with clerical responsibilities in the parish office such as bulk mailings, stuffing envelopes, answering the phone and door.

The PTO works to support the school and parents in a collaborative effort to educate our children. This organization of volunteers sponsors meetings, fund raising events, and provides volunteer services for such duties as room parents, library aides, health & safety committee, teacher appreciation, etc.

Assist with updating the parish website.

The Pro-Advocacy Group promotes a renewed respect for human life in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church. Its primary focus is the defense of human conception to natural death.

The Pro-Advocacy Group organizes all parish pro-life communications, programs and activities and coordinates parish participation in all archdiocesan-sponsored pro-life initiatives.

RCIA offers an invitation to “come and see” what the Catholic faith is all about. The year round process is lectionary based and is in accord with the Decree of the Second Vatican Council – Roman Ritual

Adults interested in sharing in the faith journey of those in the RCIA process.

Ministers who prepare all the elements before liturgy. Specific tasks include: preparing the bread and wine, unlocking necessary parts of the building, overseeing assigned ministers for the liturgy.

The School of the Ascension of our Lord is a Catholic elementary school that exists as a vital ministry of the Church of the Ascension. Its presence in the community affords parents an opportunity to choose a school which supports family efforts in the religious formation of their children, supports their faith perspective of Catholic values and ideals, and at the same time provides a quality academic education in a caring and disciplined environment. While primarily serving the Catholic community, Ascension School embraces students from families of other faiths who value a quality Christian education.

The members on this consultative board form a policy making body that is organized to promote quality Christian education for our school. It works within the guidelines and regulations determined by the Office of Lifelong Formation and Education and Kentucky state law.

The mission of the committee is to enable the parishioners, as followers of Christ, to reach out in service and action to those in need. This committee’s goal is to increase awareness within the parish community concerning various social issues. It encourages parishioners to take social action. Efforts of the committee are on the local, regional, national and global level. Some of the many programs sponsored by the Social Responsibility Committee are Lent 4.5, parish/school garden, Giving Tree, Bloodmobile, Habitat for Humanity, SEAM, Respect Life and Bread for the World.

The festival committee coordinates various aspects of the Summer Festival Picnic. Tasks include booth chairpersons, ordering picnic items, arranging publicity, booth setup, cleanup, etc.

Members are responsible for short term and long term planning for technology for the church and school.

Offers an opportunity for women to explore and deepen their spirituality. This group meets monthly. Topics have included the enneagram, early Christian martyrs, modern day spiritual guides, the feminine face of God, journaling, and more.

The role of the Worship Committee is to help our parish celebrate the Eucharist by ensuring that music and décor is appropriate for the season, to train and schedule ministers for Mass, and to provide a well-run liturgy. While some committee members are responsible for scheduling and training ministers for our Masses others may have an interest in becoming knowledgeable about liturgical guidelines and environment. Still others assist with planning for Christmas, Easter, Advent and Lent. The committee meets ten times a year. Membership includes the Director of Worship, the worship chairperson, coordinators for the five ministries, and at-large members. New members are welcome at any time.
